Apparently, CryptoLogic's top leadership will move in January to Dublin, the centre of online gambling, and the source of major customers in Europe. The new headquarters will house only 11 of CryptoLogic's approximately 400 employees, including the CEO, chief financial officer and head of investor relations. About 250 staff in Toronto focusing on software development will be unaffected.
What could possibly affect such important decision? Dublin was chosen over London as a European base because the company already has some operations there, and Ireland offers better tax rates. The simple fact that these two countries have different banishment laws was not the main reason for the transaction. Ireland also imposes tight restrictions on gambling, but industry officials expect that to change in by the next spring's election.
The company also declared that it will make the London Stock Exchange's junior AIM market its primary market, but will maintain its listings on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ Stock Market. The company said it expects to develop a bigger investment following in Europe with the changes.
