Montreal public security ministry worried that the city casino relocation might increase the crime rates in the area. According to the plan, the casino will be moved to downtown Montreal.
In a report that was published this week, the citys public security ministry warns the move could cause to a rise in the number of problem gamblers and might cause related crime such as theft, fraud and loan sharking.
The casino owners, Loto-Quebec plan is to move the casino from an island off the city centre to a lower class neighborhood near by the downtown center. The plan will cost 1 billion dollars, and the casino will be a part of an entertainment complex that would include a hotel and a hall where Cirque du soleil performances will take place.
Montreal social organizations have already claimed that the casino relocation will increase the neediness amongst the neighborhood residents who will be tempted to spend their money on casino games.
